Hon. Stephen Dhieu Dau Singed Agreement on Trade and Economic Cooperation in Turkey

The South Sudan Minister of Finance and Planning, Hon. Stephen Dhieu Dau who is currently in Turkey on an official visit and the Turkish Minister of Economy, H.E. Nihat Zeybekci singed a Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement between the Republic of South Sudan and the Republic of Turkey in Ankara, on Wednesday, April 26, 2017.
In his remarks during the agreement signing, the South Sudan Minister of Finance and Planning, Hon. Stephen Dhieu Dau paid tribute to the leadership of the two friendly countries represented by the two Presidents; H. E. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan and H. E. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of the Republic of Turkey who have been working very hard to develop bilateral relations between South Sudan and Turkey at the highest level for the benefit of the two friendly people and countries (Turkey and South Sudan).
Hon. Stephen Dhieu thanked the Turkish Minister for his kind invitation and reception extended to him and his delegation to visit Turkey. “On behalf of the People and Government of the Republic of South Sudan and on my own behalf, I humbly extend our congratulations to the People and the Government of Turkey for the successful conduct of the 16th April, 2017 referendum that changed the system of the Governance from Parliamentary to Presidential system.
Indeed it was
a fair and credible referendum as witnessed by independent media and many people around the world”. He further stressed that the Government of South Sudan is committed to the promotion of excellent bilateral and historical relations that exists, between our two friendly Countries (Turkey and South Sudan). The Minist
er further said that he was very pleased to join the Turkish Minister of Economy in signing the historic Trade and Economic partnership agreement between the two friendly nations, which will enhance the bilateral and economic cooperation in numerous fields for the next decades to come. Among the areas of cooperation include investment in Minerals and Mining, Agriculture, Livestock and fisheries, Energy and Tourism, Energy and Science and Technology”. Hon. Stephen Dhieu further extended an invitation to the Turkish Minister of Economy to visit Juba, South Sudan at his convenience.
On his part, H.E. Nihat Zeybekci, said he was pleased to welcome the South Sudanese Minister of Finance and Planning to Ankara, Turkey to sign the economic cooperation agreement. This agreement is an important step in improving economic and trade cooperation between our two sisterly countries and will immediately open the doors Turkish investors to explore South Sudan’s potential in Mining and minerals, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, among others, he said. The Minister further expressed his willingness to travel to Juba, South Sudan with potential investors as soon as possible to broaden this important cooperation.
Present at the signing ceremony for the Government of the Republic of South Sudan were; H. E. Ambassador Majok Guandong, The South Sudan Ambassador to the Republic of Turkey (Head of Mission), Ambassador Francis Okeny Olaka, Deputy Head of Mission, Ambassador Nickson Deng Kuccath, Director of European Affairs at the South Sudan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Zafer Topaloglu, South Sudan Honorary Counsel General in Turkey based in Ankara, Hon. Agak Achuil Lual, the First Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance and Planning, Mr. Charles Chol Mojwok, Technical Advisor – Macro Economic Planning Desk – MoFP, Mr. Abraham Diing Akoi, Technical Advisor for Policy, Aid Coordination and External Affairs – MoFP, Mr. Pitia Samuel, Legal Advisor – MoFP, Mr. Gieth Abraham Dauson, Executive Director to the Minister, Mr. Nuer Stephen Ret, First Secretary (Diplomat), Ms. Achai Bulabek Chol, First Secretary (Diplomat), Ms. Melike Asli As, Administrative to the Ambassador and Mr. Dominic Tete Yusto.
Indeed, H. E. Ambassador Majok Guandong and the entire Diplomatic staff at the South Sudan Embassy to the Republic of Turkey are doing great job by promoting the already existing cordial relationship and are pursuing various projects and programs within the framework of Turkey-African partnership.
Right after the Independence of the Republic of South Sudan, and its recognition by the United Nation in July 2011 as the 193rd UN Member State, South Sudan opened its door to the world.
On the 24th September 2012 at the sideline of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the Republic of South Sudan and the Republic of Turkey signed two MOUs on the mutual abolition of Visa for Diplomatic Passport holders and on cooperation between the Foreign Academy of the Republic of Turkey and Diplomatic Institute of the Republic of South Sudan which were signed by the then Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hon. Nhial Deng Nhial and H. E. Ahmet Davutoglu, Minister of Foreign Affairs Republic of Turkey.
